Smart Start News

After the tremendous success of last year's symposium, Smart Start, the early childhood division of United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, grantee for three Early Reading First projects in Georgia, is sponsoring a two-day Symposium. The symposium is designed to meet the needs of the instructional staff from the Dream, Readers and Light projects and other professionals in the field of early childhood.

I wanted to keep you updated on how much the Smart Start Program has proved to be a blessing! :-) The qualifications that Smart Start provided assisted in making it possible for me to get hired the day I went in for an interview. I just wanted to share the wonderful news! Plus, I've come to realize I have a passion in advancing the opportunities for children from such a tender age. Therefore, if there is ever anything I can do to assist in this program, or any other, It would be my pleasure!

The Smart Start Early Education Substitute Teacher Program is specifically designed to recruit and instruct adults in the needs of young children, how children develop and learn, and the needs of a child care program. Graduates of the program will provide children, ages 6 weeks to five years, with a caring and knowledgeable substitute teacher when their regular teacher is out.

This innovative 5-day training program is offered several times at various locations throughout Georgia. For a list of training class dates, times, and locations, click on the "Training Classes" link above.

The goals of this program are:

  • To provide interested candidates with an alternative pathway in the educational field of early care and learning.

  • To provide qualified substitute teachers to licensed and registered Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning child care facilities.
